The future of Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has been the subject of intense speculation, with reports suggesting he could be on his way to Real Madrid this summer.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Bayer midfielder Robert Andrich has now openly admitted that the ongoing rumors have affected the team, who have struggled to match the high standards that saw them win the German double last season.

“There’s a lot of noise around the team, and as a player, you definitely feel that,” Andrich said.

“I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t affect us, because it’s clear that he’s either staying or leaving," added the midfielder, who noted that he and his teammates can't do much to change the situation.

“We’re just waiting to be surprised, and then we’ll see.”

Behind the scenes, the club’s management is preparing for different possible scenarios.

“Basically, the job is always to prepare for many eventualities in theory,” said Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting managing director, Simon Rolfes, after Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Augsburg.

“Clarity always helps in life. We don’t have that right now, but we will, and then we’ll move forward. There’s no doubt that clarity would be good for everyone. We’re all aware of that, and Xabi is aware of it as well,” Rolfes emphasized.
