RB Leipzig are no longer in with a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League after going down 2-3 to Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Die Roten Bullen needed a win to keep their qualification hopes alive, but instead they lost for the sixth time in a row in the Champions League.

“That game was a perfect representation of our whole Champions League season," said Leipzig midfielder Christoph Baumgartner in a post-match interview.

“We’ve been in every game, have been pushing for a goal and then end up losing in the end. It’s been like that in almost every match. It really hurts. We have to be honest and say that we’ve not been good enough to qualify.”

He didn't want to excuse the defeat, but pointed out that a long list of injuries hasn't made things any easier.

“We’ve got 14 or 15 players that are having to constantly play at the minute, it’s really tough. Ultimately though, we can’t have any excuses. It’s the Champions League and we all want to play in it. Our aim now is to show what we’re really made of. We will give our all once again in the final two Bundesliga games before the winter break.”
