Dahmen after successful 2024/25 debut: "I showed the coach he can count on me."
Twenty-six-year-old former Germany U21 keeper Finn Dahmen made the most of his 2024/25 debut last night, keeping a clean sheet in FC Augsburg's Pokal victory over FC Schalke 04. Even if the 26-year-old didn't have terribly much to do in his team's win over the lowly Königsblauen, Dahmen's performance may mean that he can hope for more starts in the future.
An injury in training camp enabled new summer signing Nediljko Labrović to leapfrog Dahmen on the depth chart. Labrović's form thus far this season has nevertheless left much to be desired. Only tanking former German national team keeper Manuel Neuer (50 percent) has a save rate worse than that (51.3 percent of the Croatian. Labrović has conceded 19 goals thus far this season.
“Every [training] session, every game brings me furthe [towards my goals],” Dahmen remarked on Tuesday after the match, ”Of course I want to be in goal every weekend too."
“I feel ready,” Dahmen continued, ”I think I played a good game today and showed the coach that I'm there; that he can count on me. I'll give my all in every training session and hope that he puts me in the goal again as soon as possible.”
