Unstoppable Germany roll over Bosnia-Herzegovina to seal top spot

Germany secured first place in UEFA Nations League Group A3 with a comfortable 7-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Saturday night.

Julian Nagelsmann's side, who had already qualified for the quarter-finals before the match, couldn't have asked for a better start as Jamal Musiala drew first blood after less than two minutes. Joshua Kimmich's cross found the Bayern Munich youngster unmarked and he headed the ball into the back of the net.

Tim Klendienst, making his third appearance for Germany, doubled the lead on 23 minutes with his first international goal, guiding Robert Andrich's shot into the net.

In complete control, Germany pushed for a third and were rewarded in the 37th minute when Kai Havertz finished off a neat one-two with Florian Wirtz.

Bosnia-Herzegovina's only real chance of the first half came on the stroke of half-time, when Oliver Baumann saved well from Armin Gigovic in the area.

Germany continued where they left off after the break, with Florian Wirtz scoring from a direct free-kick in the 50th minute.

Seven minutes later, Wirtz added his second of the night, scoring at the back post from Kai Havertz's pass to make it 5-0.

That was Wirtz's last action of the game, as Nagelsmann included him in a four-man substitution shortly afterwards. The Leverkusen youngster went off alongside Maximilian Mittelstädt, Jamal Musiala and Robert Andrich to make way for Benjamin Henrichs, Leroy Sané, Julian Brandt and Serge Gnabry.

Leroy Sané was quick to make an impact as he added to the scoreline on 66 minutes. The Bayern winger was picked out by Kai Havertz, took a few neat touches before firing past Nikola Vasilj.

There was a fly in the ointment for Germany when captain Joshua Kimmich was forced off in the 73rd minute with an injury.

Julian Nagelsmann's men weren't done scoring though, as Tim Kleindienst scored his second goal of the game in the 79th minute to extend the lead to 7-0.

That proved to be Germany's final goal of the evening, with Nagelsmann's side cruising to victory.

The win keeps Germany five points clear of the Netherlands, who beat Hungary 4-0 in the other Group A3 match on Saturday night.

Julian Nagelsmann's side face Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday in their last match of 2024.
