Roland Virkus has put pen to paper on a new contract as Borussia Mönchengladbach's managing director for sport.

The 58-year-old's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season.

“We’re very pleased with the development and performances of our team this season and we’re delighted to have agreed a contract extension with Roland, who took on the responsibility of the team three years ago in a difficult situation and has since helped restructure the club behind the scenes,” said club president Rainer Bonhof.

Virkus, who has spent more than 30 years at the club in a variety of roles, was appointed managing director for sport in 2022. He commented:

“I’d like to thank the presidential board for our good discussions and the trust they’ve put in me. When I took on this role here, my aim was to play a part in our club moving in the right direction again. The foundations for that have been set. Now as a team, we need to keep driving this positive development so Borussia can achieve our aims."
