Holstein Kiel thought they had taken a 3-2 lead in Sunday's relegation battle with VfL Bochum when Lewis Holtby smashed the ball into the net in the 73rd minute.

However, much to Holtby's frustration, the video assistant referee intervened and referee Felix Zwayer eventually waved the goal off, leaving the game 2-2.

"If it's a foul, if it's really a foul, then it's a scandal, honestly," Holtby fumed in a post-match interview with DAZN.

The goal was disallowed because Holtby was adjudged to have committed a foul on Bochum's Tom Krauss.

"He runs into my hand. If that's a foul, I'd better retire next season," continued the veteran midfielder, , who also felt he should have been awarded a penalty after going down in the box following a challenge from Ivan Ordets.

“I'm at a loss for words with both decisions.”
