With just one year remaining on his contract at Borussia Dortmund, Julian Brandt’s is uncertain.

According to Sky Germany, Werder Bremen are keeping a close eye on the attacking midfielder’s situation.

While Brandt has never played for Werder, he was born in Bremen and holds a strong personal connection to the club.

“As a little kid, I always told myself that I would become a professional and eventually return to Bremen. My younger brother plays there, my family lives in Bremen. I have a special bond with the city,” Brandt said in an interview with Sport1 in 2023.

Despite his ties to Werder, a move to Bremen currently appears unlikely, with Sky reporting that Werder would not be able to come close to matching Brandt’s reported annual salary of €8-9 million.

The key question is whether the 28-year-old would be willing to accept a significant pay cut to make the move happen.
