Bayern Munich finally ended a six-match winless streak against Bayer Leverkusen, comfortably defeating Xabi Alonso's side 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.

Harry Kane, who scored a brace for the home side, was naturally delighted with the performance and the result.

“It was a big step in the right direction. We've struggled against this side over the last couple of years, they're a really good team. But I thought the focus was top from everyone from the first minute,” Kane told DAZN.

“Everyone did a good job today. It would've been nice to add another goal towards the end, but we'll take the three goals. We're looking forward to the second leg,” the striker continued.

Although Bayern have laid the foundations to progress to the quarter-finals, Kane is not taking anything for granted ahead of the return leg in Leverkusen.

“They will come with the belief that they can turn it around, and we have to go with the same mindset we had today,” he stressed.
