Paul Wanner has impressed for Heidenheim on loan from Bayern Munich this season, and that has not gone unnoticed.
According to Bild, RB Leipzig have identified the 18-year-old as a possible replacement for Xavi Simons, should the Paris Saint-Germain loanee leave the Red Bull Arena for good at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with a move for Wanner, with reports suggesting he could be involved in a swap deal that would see Florian Wirtz join Bayern.
Of course, it's also possible that Wanner will stay at Bayern, where he is under contract until 2027. The question is whether they can offer him the game time he needs to continue his development.
“We're very happy with his progress,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said at a press conference on Friday.
"He's taken the next step with Heidenheim and getting a lot of minutes there. We're in close contact with him. He's a player who should be important for the future of FC Bayern."
Wanner has scored five goals and provided two assists in 14 matches for Heidenheim this season.
