Leipzig set to sign Xavi Simons on a permanent deal

Hours after a disappointing end to their Champions League campaign, RB Leipzig are set to complete a permanent transfer for Xavi Simons. Both Sky Deutschland and Bild report that the Bundesliga outfit have agreed a deal with PSG.

Bild reports that Leipzig will pay around 50 million euros to sign Xavi Simons permanently. The price could rise to 80 million euros after bonuses, but it’s part of unrealistic clauses, as transfer expert Florian Plettenberg reported.

Back when he was only 16, Xavi Simons followed Neymar’s footsteps with a move from Barcelona to PSG. But the move didn’t work out for him as he only started three games for Ligue 1’s giants before a loan deal to PSV.

Under Ruud van Nistelrooy, Xavi not only won the Dutch cup, but he finished as Eredivisie’s top-scorer. Leipzig beat PSV to sign him for the following season, and he finished as Bundesliga’s joint-top assist-maker with 11.

His excellent Euro 2024 only added to the list of his suitors, but Leipzig once again succeeded in extending the loan deal at the start of the season. Even though an ankle injury sidelined him for a couple of months, Xavi still registered nine goal involvements this season.

However, the transfer will not end speculations on Xavi’s future. According to reports, Xavi will only sign until 2027. PSG were desperate to offload the player as they wanted an extra slot to loan players. FIFA’s rule requires a club to only have six players out on loan deals.
