Ljubicic headed to Union in January?

As part of their traditional beginning-of-December transfer update published in the Wednesday print edition, Germany's "Sport Bild" tabloid reports 1. FC union Berlin have identified Köln's Dejan Ljubicic as a major January transfer target.

Union Berlin personnel boss Horst Heldt is apparently keen on acquiring the Austrian midfield talent he once improbably recruited to 1. FC Köln during the coming transfer window. Germany's Sport Bild tabloid reports that Heldt wants Dejan Ljubicic back with him in the German top flight with 1. FC Union Berlin.

The versatile 28-year-old could conceivably also help out the Eisernen attack. The former Rapid Vienna man has amassed five scorer points (two goals and three assists) in 10 league appearances this year and also helped shoot die Geißböcke into the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Ljubicic maintains an estimated market worth of €5 million. There are reportedly other suitors with deeper pockets such as VfL Wolfsburg and Leeds United. It's nevertheless quite possible that the player could be persuaded to head to Köpenick.

The cathedral city side themselves are desperately seeking attacking assistance and have been heavily linked with Union transfer flop Ivan Prtajin. A swap deal might not be so farfetched.
