Report: Süle must halve salary to extend Dortmund contract

According to Sport Bild, a new contract for Niklas Süle at Borussia Dortmund is only possible if the defender is prepared to accept a significant reduction in his wages.

There is a big question mark hanging over Niklas Süle's future at Borussia Dortmund.

In what has proved to be an injury-plagued season for the 29-year-old, he has played just 760 minutes in 10 games in all competitions.

Even when he's fit, Süle isn't a guaranteed starter for the Black and Yellows - and that will naturally play a significant role when he sits down with the club to discuss his future.

According to Sport Bild, Süle would likely have to halve his €14 million-a-year salary to extend his contract beyond 2026, with the report claiming that Dortmund only want to pay double-digit million salaries in the future in exceptional cases.

Dortmund are understandably reluctant to lose Süle for free in 2026, so if the parties cannot come to an agreement, a summer transfer could be on the cards.

The former Bayern defender is expected to return from a syndesmotic ligament tear towards the end of February.
