Borussia Dortmund were soundly beaten 4-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash with FC Barcelona on Wednesday night, leaving their hopes of reaching the semi-finals hanging by a thread.

Speaking after the match, a visibly frustrated Adeyemi expressed his disappointment, admitting the team fell far short of expectations.

“It's quite embarrassing how we played today, including myself and the whole team. It's not at all what we wanted. It is what it is. For me, there's still some hope, I guess – but it'll be really, really hard,” said Adeyemi, according to UEFA.com.

"Our hopes are there for the second leg. It's hard but it's football and we are at home, so we just have to hope."

The second leg in Dortmund will be played on Tuesday next week.
