In the wake of a 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeneß spoke to the media after the game. The Swabians' head coach gave his take on the game and the impact of Nick Woltemade's red card.

"We had the first small chance from a set piece, followed by a good opportunity from Oliver Burke. After that, Bremen had the upper hand, but we scored.

"We were the more active team, but in some situations we were too imprecise to create more. Nevertheless, we were close to adding to the score – and it was precisely in this phase that we conceded the equalizer. The game was more balanced.

"In the second half, we wanted to play with more determination and intensity – I think that was evident. The game was played in Bremen's half for long stretches, without any big chances, but we were still putting pressure on.

"The second yellow card had a big impact on the game. We then played against a good team with a man down. However, it wasn't as if we had to survive one chance after another. We didn't look good in the 2-1 defeat. Today is a tough, bitter day," Hoeneß concluded.
