For a moment, it looked like Thomas Müller was going to be the hero for Bayern Munich when he scored a late equaliser to make it 1-1 in his side's Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash with Inter at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
However, much to the disappointment of Müller and his teammates, Inter quickly struck back, securing a 2-1 victory and leaving Bayern with a challenging task ahead of the return leg in Italy next week.
Analyzing the game in an interview with Prime Video (via UEFA.com) after the game, Müller said:
“We managed to fight back and then a situation that, when we analyse it back, we’ll realise we could have done better in. Ultimately, it’s about goals in football. I don’t want to talk about the brutality of football; it’s half-time. We wanted a different result, but we know all is not lost.
“I think we found the solutions against Inter; unfortunately, we didn’t take our big chance to make it 1-0. Then you have a very different feeling. At the start, we were perhaps a bit too passive when we wanted to be on the front foot, but Inter are a side who can dictate the tempo and are very tough to play against.
"Tonight wasn’t a walk in the park and we weren’t expecting one. The chances converted are the key. We had a fair few chances, but unfortunately the last counter makes it 2-1. Else it’s 1-1, a good fightback and the Müller story would have played out. I’ll have to complain to Inter."
