HSV set to welcome back Glatzel ahead of schedule

Robert Glatzel, who has 70 goals in 106 appearances for HSV, could make a shock return to fitness in time for this weekend's game.

Robert Glatzel looks set to make his return to the pitch after a lengthy layoff period which started in October.

The Hamburg SV striker was declared fit by head coach Merlin Polzin at the Hanseatic club’s press conference today.

“He trained fully this week, and he is definitely a candidate for the squad and starting eleven, like everyone who has fully trained,” Polzin explained.

Facing the challenge of Fortuna Düsseldorf this weekend, it is unlikely Glatzel will be thrust straight into the starting lineup.

It was originally planned that the 31-year-old would make his comeback after the March international break when HSV face SV Elversberg.

“I’m feeling really good,” Glatzel said in an interview with BILD. “I am incredibly happy that I can train fully with the team again.

“From training to training, I notice that my fitness level is getting better and better,” he explained.

With a substitute appearance against Düsseldorf most likely, it would be a full-circle moment for the German who tore his tendon against the same team back on Matchday 8.
