Manuel Neuer was shown the first red card of his career on Tuesday night when he brought down Jeremie Frimpong 17 minutes into Bayern Munich's 0-1 DFB-Pokal defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

The sending off left Bayern in a difficult position, and Neuer has since apologized for the incident in both post-match interviews and on social media.

“That’s tough ... Unfortunately I came too late in the situation in which I tried to help. After the red card, it was of course extremely difficult for the boys with one man down, but they really tried everything. I’m sorry,” Neuer wrote on Instagram.

However, Neuer's former teammate Toni Kroos doesn't think the 38-year-old has any reason to say sorry.

"Stop apologizing," Kroos wrote in an Instagram comment accompanied by the goat emoji, which stands for the acronym ‘GOAT’, meaning 'Greatest of All Time'.

Former Bayern Munich players Franck Ribery and Giovane Elber also sent messages of encouragement to the former Germany international.
