Romano Schmid appears likely to leave Werder Bremen at the end of the season.

According to Sky Germany, the Austria international is keen to take the next step in his career next summer at the latest.

The report claims that Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in signing Schmid.

The 24-year-old signed a new contract with Werder a year ago. The length of the deal hasn't been made public, but Sky reports that it runs until 2026.

In order to avoid losing Schmid for nothing, it would make sense for Werder to sell him next summer, with the price estimated at around €10 million.

Schmid has become a key player for Werder since joining from RB Salzburg in January 2019. He has made 13 appearances this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
