After crushing Scotland 5-1 in their Euro 2024 opener, Germany will be looking for more of the same when they take on Hungary in their second group game in Stuttgart on Wednesday.
The Hungarians are coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss to Switzerland in their opening match, in which they showed defensive frailties that they will need to address if they are to avoid a second successive defeat to the hosts.
But despite their poor start to the tournament, Hungary shouldn't be underestimated, Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said at a press conference on Monday.
“They’re a tough side to play against. They try to fight for every loose ball. That means we can’t underestimate them and we have to maintain our rhythm,” he said, adding:
“We’re full of confidence after our first game, but Hungary will be a different sort of challenge. The Swiss broke through them several times and scored goals, but Hungary also had phases of pressure, and were close to scoring a few of their own.”
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has no reason to change his starting line-up, with the 11 who started against Scotland set to continue.
As for Hungary, Bendeguz Bolla, who came on at half-time against Switzerland, will be in contention to start at right wing-back, with Marton Dardai an option to start should Marco Rossi decide to change his three-man backline.
