Harry Kane hit out at referee Bastian Dankert after receiving a yellow card that will rule him out of Bayern’s potential title decider against RB Leipzig.

Harry Kane is on the verge of the first title of his career. Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Mainz on Saturday means that if they beat RB Leipzig next weekend, the Bundesliga trophy will be theirs.

But Kane won’t be on the pitch for that potential title decider. The striker is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season during the Mainz game.

After committing a foul late in the first half, Kane didn't give the ball back straight away and was booked by referee Bastian Dankert.

Speaking to Bild after the match, Kane didn’t hold back in criticizing the decision.

“First of all, I think it’s an outrageous decision. It’s never a yellow card,” he fumed.

“Unfortunately, some people come to the Allianz Arena and try to make a name for themselves.

“I’m really disappointed I got the yellow card - because of course I knew I already had four. And secondly, the rule itself is crazy. Five yellow cards in 34 games and you get suspended. That’s insane.”

He went on to suggest the Bundesliga should look to the Premier League for a better system.

“They should change it, like in the Premier League. I’m missing a huge game because I got a yellow card in the first match of the season. That makes no sense. Maybe it’s something to think about for the future.”

In the Premier League, players are suspended for one game if they accumulate five yellow cards between Matchday 1 and December 31. If the fifth yellow comes in January or later, it won't lead to a suspension.

Still, Kane is staying upbeat.

“Missing the Leipzig game is kind of part of my story. But don’t worry - I’ll be celebrating more than anyone else," he stressed.
