“Of course, we're delighted with the result. Our performance increased our chances of coming away with points today," said Gladbach's head coach Gerardo Seoane.

“We pressed them early, dealt with them man for man across the whole pitch and had some high turnovers. We also gave them very little space when we were in a low block. Despite the work we had to do defensively, we never stopped playing football. We looked to work our way forward and expose the space in behind. We looked excellent at times and created good chances.”

After Stuttgart dragged themselves level minutes after the beginning of the second half, Gladbach began to get back into the ascendancy, with Die Fohlen being the much better outfit for large periods against fellow European hopefuls.

Alongside his boss, the scorer of the winning goal, Tim Kleindienst went on to give his thoughts.

“We had a good period of pressure early on and got into the box a number of times. We started to get the feeling that the win was on today if we could keep that pressure up,” said the 29-year-old forward.

“We were solid defensively; we were alert and focused throughout the match, so huge credit to the boys. That work was vital, as it meant that we could create counter-attacks, and they led to our goals. All in all, it was a great away performance.”

The result sees Gladbach climb up to 7th in the Bundesliga standings, ahead of Wolfsburg's trip to Frankfurt on Sunday afternoon.
