Ko Itakura has long been linked with a move away from Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he is under contract until 2026.

PSV reportedly showed real interest in the defender last summer, and while he ultimately stayed put, speculation about his future has continued.

However, as Gladbach board member for sport Roland Virkus emphasized in an interview with Sport1 on Sunday, Die Fohlen remain hopeful of extending Itakura's contract.

"We will do everything we can," Virkus insisted.

“We are in dialogue with him, but I can't say yet [if he will sign an extension]. We can go to a certain point and if that's not enough, we'll have to find another Itakura.”

A winter transfer is out of the question, Virkus reiterated, and there is "still a bit of time" before the summer.
