Huge blow on an otherwise perfect night: Club captain Manuel Neuer had to be substituted in Bayern's 3-0 victory over rival Leverkusen in the 1st leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The goalkeeper injured himself while celebrating Jamal Musiala's goal to put the Bavarians 2-0 in front.
Bayern have now confirmed that Neuer has sustained a muscle strain his right calf, with Sky Germany reporting that the injury will put him out of action (at least) until the upcoming international break.
That means the 38-year-old will miss not only the return leg against Leverkusen, but also the Bundesliga games against Bochum, Union Berlin and St. Pauli.
The most likely replacement will be Jonas Urbig, who already came on for Neuer against Leverkusen on Wednesday. The 21-year-old goalkeeper talent transferred to Bayern Munich in January and is seen by many as a possible successor for the legend that is Manuel Neuer.
