Earlier today, DFB announced Sandro Wagner will depart from his position as Germany's assistant coach at the end of the UEFA Nations League. Sky now reports that the news of Wagner’s resignation didn’t catch the football association off guard as they had already started looking for a potential replacement.

According to Sky’s Patrick Berger, Julian Nagelsmann contacted Alfred Schreuder about his availability a month ago. Schreuder worked with the current Bundestrainer at Hoffenheim during the youth coach’s first spell in professional football.

Although his time at Ajax wasn’t inspiring, Schreuder was also part of Ronald Koeman’s coaching staff at FC Barcelona. The 52-year-old is currently under contract with the UAE side Al-Nasr. With only two games left in the league season, Schreuder’s Al-Nasr are set to repeat their sixth-placed finish from the previous campaign.
